How to make the site installable on a phone as an app

1. Add a menu item and in the “Module” field choose, via “Select” → “Informers”, the “Install app” card (code informer_pwa). Save.
2. Open the item and click “Module settings”:
   • “Button text”;
   • “App name” and “Label under the icon (up to 12 characters)” — if empty, the site name is used;
   • “App icon (square, from 512×512)” — if there is none, the favicon or logo is used, and if there are neither, the first letter of the name on a colored background;
   • “App background and status bar color”;
   • “Show the button on desktop too”.
3. Save.

The visitor sees the button in the phone's browser until the app is installed. On Android in Chrome, Yandex Browser and Samsung Internet it opens the install dialog; on iPhone it shows a short instruction “Share → Add to Home Screen”. There is no button inside the installed app. Without a connection, the app shows the page “No internet connection”.

As an administrator you always see the button — faded where a visitor wouldn't see it — along with hints if something prevents installation.

On a phone the top menu collapses into a hamburger button, and the install button ends up inside it. To keep it in plain sight, place the informer in the footer or as a section on a page.

If it didn't work

• “The site is not opened over HTTPS”. Installation only works on a secure address.
• I hid the item from the menu — installation disappeared. The app is enabled only by a visible informer. With “Nobody. You can open it.” it stops working.
• A visitor from Telegram or VKontakte can't install. It's not possible from an in-app browser; the button will suggest opening the site in Chrome or Safari.
