How to change the site's main language
← BackChoose the “Base language” on the “Site languages” tab and click “Save languages”. This declares the language the texts are already written in — it does not translate anything by itself.
- Open “General settings” → the “Site languages” tab.
- In the “Base language” list, choose a language.
- Click “Save languages”.
The base language is the one in which the site's texts are written: section titles and content, products, plans. It opens at addresses without a prefix (/about), translation into the other languages starts from it, and SEO texts are written in it.
Changing it translates nothing. Change the base language only if the site's texts are actually written in the chosen language. Example: the site was filled in English, but Russian is set as the base — switch to English, and translation will go in the right direction.
The previous base language remains enabled as a regular one — uncheck it if its version is not needed.
If it didn't work
- You wanted to make the translated version the main one, but it shows Russian texts. You cannot swap languages: translations into the new base language are saved but not shown. Switch back to the previous base language.
- There is no language switcher on the site. The base language does not depend on it: languages and prefixed addresses work without the informer; the visitor just cannot switch the language themselves.
