How to open the site in the desired language for a specific region of a country

← Back

In the “Language switcher” informer settings, fill in “Exception rules”: a line like “UA: Crimea, Donetsk = ru”.

  1. In the site structure, open the language switcher informer → “Module settings”.
  2. In the “Exception rules” field, write one rule per line: Country code: regions separated by commas = language code. For example: UA: Крым, Севастополь, Донецк, Луганск = ru.
  3. Click “Save” in the section window.

On the first visit, the language is chosen by the visitor's country. A rule makes an exception for individual regions. A region can be specified by part of its name (“Донецк” will match “Донецкая область”) or by region code. Without a list of regions (BY = ru), the rule applies to the entire country.

A rule fires only if its language is enabled on the site, and only on the first visit: for someone who has already chosen a language themselves, it changes nothing. An empty field means no exceptions. If the informer has never been saved, the default rule for Crimea and Donbas applies.

If it didn't work

  • You're testing on yourself — the language doesn't change. Your choice has already been remembered by the browser for a year. Test in an incognito window.
  • The region is not recognized. Region names sometimes arrive in English — add both variants to the line, as in the default rule.
