How to view the site through a visitor's eyes without leaving the admin panel
← BackClick the little person icon in the top right corner of the header — the site will be shown as to a regular user, without gears and edit buttons. Clicking again returns to administrator mode.
- Find the little person icon with a gear in the top right corner of the header (tooltip "Administrator mode. Click to view the site as a user"). On a phone it is a circle next to the menu button.
- Click it. The button will turn orange with the label "User", and the page will be redrawn without gears, handles, plus signs and in-place editing.
- To go back, click the button again.
In this mode the site is assembled the way a logged-in user without administrator rights sees it: menus, access levels, "Administrators only" sections — all as they see them. "Guests only" sections are still not visible: after all, you are logged in.
The mode is remembered in this browser for a year, separately for each site. Other administrators and visitors notice nothing. Your rights are not lost: if a settings window is open in a neighboring tab, saving there will still work.
If it didn't work
- I turned the mode on while on a service page — and was sent to the home page. This is by design: service pages are closed to users, and instead of "Access denied" you are taken to the home page.
- All the edit buttons disappeared and do not come back. "User" mode is on — look at the orange button in the header and click it.
- I want to see the site as a guest. This mode shows a logged-in user. To see it as a guest, open the site in a private browser window.
