How to add breadcrumbs (navigation trail)

← Back

Create a section with the "Navigation trail" module and place it as a section on the page — the path "Home › Section › …" will appear above the text.

  1. Create a section and in the "Module" field choose, via "Select", the "Navigation trail" card (code breadcrumbs). Save.
  2. Open the section again and click "Module settings":
    • "Start from the home page" — the first link will be "Home";
    • "Home label" — your own text instead of "Home";
    • "Arrow with subsections of the current page at the end";
    • "Separator" — › / → » ·.
  3. Place this section as a section on the page where the trail is needed — usually "at the very top".

The trail is built from the nesting of sections in the structure. Clicking a link expands a list of neighboring sections at the same level — you can go straight to a neighboring section. Items hidden from the menu do not appear in the lists. The trail is marked up separately for search engines.

A section can be placed as a section on the site only once, so each page needs its own trail section. If a form is already on the page, it is easier to add a field of the "Navigation trail" type to it (the "System" group): it has no settings, but no extra section is needed. An object page has the same system field.

If it didn't work

  • The trail shows the wrong page. The module shows the path of the page it is placed on as a section. If you open the trail section itself by its address, you will see the path to that section itself.
  • No link to the home page at the beginning. Check the "Start from the home page" checkbox.
  • A link without a URL. This is how dropdown items with the address # look: they have no page of their own.
