How to set up an internal chat for employees
← BackA section with the chat module provides a “General chat” for all site users and private conversations between two people. The same conversation is visible in the multichat as “Organization chat”.
- Create a section and enter
chatin the “Module” field. Only logged-in site users can write. - On login, the “General chat” opens right away — it is visible to all site users.
- To write to one person, start typing a name or the beginning of an email in the “Find a contact” field. An empty search shows the list of users.
- From the general chat you can switch to a private one by clicking the name or avatar of a message's author.
A private conversation is visible only to the two participants — even the site administrator doesn't read it. New messages appear on their own, without reloading the page. The 😊 button in the input field opens the emoji panel.
Name and avatar. If no name is set in the profile, colleagues see you by the beginning of your email — a “Set your name” hint appears above the list. The avatar is uploaded on the /settings page, in the “Avatar” block: JPG, PNG, GIF or WEBP up to 8 MB; the image will be cropped to a square.
Connection with the multichat. The conversation is stored as the “Organization chat” channel: you can reply to a colleague from the multichat too. The number of unread messages in the menu is shown by the informer with the informer_chat module.
Links: /chat?u=all — general chat, /chat?u= followed by a user number — private conversation with that user.
If it didn't work
- Search doesn't find a colleague. Search by the beginning of their email: they may not have a name set.
- No “Avatar” block in settings. It appears only when the site has a chat or multichat section.
