How to add an online chat to your website

← Back

In the multichat, create a “Website chat” channel, copy the embed code and add it to all pages of your site. Conversations with visitors will arrive in the multichat.

  1. In the multichat: “Add channel” → “Website chat” → “New website chat”.
  2. In the “Chat window” section, set the “Window title”, the “Greeting”, and decide whether to ask for the “Visitor’s name and contact”: don’t ask, can be skipped, or required before the first message.
  3. In the “Channels in the button menu” section, tick the connected messengers — items such as “Write on Telegram”, “Write on WhatsApp”, etc. will appear in the button menu. The link can be edited; for MAX it is entered manually.
  4. In the “Button on the site” section, choose the corner, margins, “Button color” and how often the icons change.
  5. Click “Save”. The code will appear in the “Code for the customer’s site” section — click “Copy”.
  6. Paste the code before the closing </body> tag on all pages where you need the button. You can check it in advance via the “Open a test page with the widget” link.

The code is pasted once: further changes to the settings are picked up by the site automatically, within a minute.

The visitor writes in the window in the corner of the site and can attach files. The conversation arrives in the multichat with the address of the page they wrote from, and the staff member’s reply appears for the visitor in the same window. Two checkmarks next to a reply mean the visitor has seen it.

The “Sites where the widget works” field restricts where the button is shown: one address per line, subdomains are included. If empty, it works everywhere the code is pasted.

If it didn’t work

  • The button doesn’t appear on the site. Check the “Website chat enabled” and “Show on phones” checkboxes, as well as the list of sites — the address must match.
  • The visitor left before getting a reply. They will see the reply only after returning to the site from the same browser — which is why it’s worth asking for a contact.
